Miguel Oliveira, a rising star in the world of motorcycle racing, has expressed his desire to see BMW make a grand entrance into the MotoGP arena. In an exclusive interview, Oliveira shared his thoughts on the potential collaboration, sparking excitement among fans and industry insiders alike. But here's where it gets intriguing...
Oliveira, who is currently gearing up for his 2026 World Superbike commitments with BMW, has been an open book about his aspirations. When asked about the possibility of BMW joining MotoGP, he revealed, "I mean, I'm not the person to talk about that for sure and [I don’t know] their plans for the future. But I would love to see them [in MotoGP], for sure."
The idea of BMW in MotoGP isn't entirely new. Rumors have been swirling for over a decade, especially after Suzuki's departure in 2022 and the recent announcement of a technical rule overhaul for 2027. However, with KTM and Honda already testing their 850cc prototypes, the timing for BMW to enter the fray might be a bit late for a 2027 debut.
Despite this, Oliveira sees MotoGP as a 'natural step' for BMW, given their recent success in WorldSBK. He explained, "They have been in the [WorldSBK] championship for over a decade now. So they are pretty much established there, and they are one of the strongest manufacturers. So you would think that would be a natural step to come up."
The switch to Pirelli tires in MotoGP in 2027 is another factor that could benefit BMW. Oliveira, who will gain experience with Pirelli in WorldSBK this year, believes this could be an advantage. Meanwhile, Toprak Razgatlioglu will be making his MotoGP debut on Michelin tires at Pramac Yamaha.
As Oliveira's career reaches its climax, his thoughts on BMW's potential MotoGP move are sure to spark debate. Will BMW take the leap? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below and let's discuss the future of motorcycle racing!
