Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 - Everything You Need to Know! (2026)

Get ready to dive back into the world of Metal Gear Solid, but here's the twist: the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming to both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, and it’s sparking some debate among fans. Is the physical version truly physical, or is it just a glorified download card? Konami has officially confirmed the release date as August 27, 2026, and while the excitement is palpable, the details of the physical release might leave some scratching their heads.

For the Switch 2, the physical version isn’t a traditional cartridge—it’s a Game-Key Card. Yes, you read that right. Despite being labeled as physical, you’ll still need to download the entire game, which requires a whopping 30.4 GB of space. This includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (25.9 GB), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (4.2 GB), and bonus content (0.3 GB). But here’s where it gets controversial: Is this really a physical release if you’re still downloading the whole game? It’s a question that’s dividing the gaming community.

On the original Switch, the physical version is slightly different. While it still requires a download, 5.3 GB of the game is pre-installed on the cartridge, reducing the additional download size to 12 GB. This might feel more like a traditional physical release, but it’s still far from a complete cartridge-based experience.

And this is the part most people miss: Konami is sweetening the deal with some enticing bonuses. Early purchasers and pre-orderers will snag a camouflage item and a uniform for both MGS4 and Peace Walker. Plus, if you have save data from Master Collection Vol. 1, you’ll unlock exclusive gold camouflage and uniform items. It’s a nice touch, but does it make up for the download-heavy physical release?

In other news, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 has received an update, bringing improvements specifically for Switch 2 players. It’s a small but welcome addition for those already immersed in the series.

So, what do you think? Is the Game-Key Card approach a step forward or a step back for physical releases? Are the bonuses enough to justify the download requirements? Let us know in the comments—this is one discussion you won’t want to miss!
